A number of elements where seen as essential for inclusion in the design:
The Warrumbungles seen clearly from town; the Castlereagh River that runs through the area; a galah so prevalent in the skies; agriculture as the important dominant industry; and the indigenous people's culture.
Pink was a key colour to included with the rest of the colour scheme to work around it.

The design started from one key point, the similarity of shape that I saw in the Warrambungles silhouette and the shape of a galahs crest.  The bird lays over the scene translucent in parts so it is the country, the mountains, the river.  The yellow area represents a wheat crop or grasslands , the green is that of the Castlereagh river in flood.

The lower central patterned area shows a dry riverbed.  Here you can see some of the designs by the indigenous Weilwan people.  The people used mark making in their traditional rituals and ceremonies - often these marks were made in the dry riverbed.  The patterns here follow their actual designs.
